ROCK DA HOUSE!

Stuart Price

ZOOT WOMAN, PLUMP DJS and FELIX DA HOUSECAT are among the acts set to play at the first NME and BUDWEISER 'HOUSE PARTY' taking place in LEEDS at the end of March.

The event, which will be held at different venues around the UK once a month, kicks off on March 23 at Leeds Granary Wharf with an '80s-styled disco featuring Zoot Woman and Les Rythmes Digitales man Jacques Lu Cont, as well as Mercury Music Prize-winner Talvin Singh on the turntables.

Sunday March 25 sees Felix Da Housecat, Plump DJs and Cut la Roc play a student night for an early-evening session, running from 5pm-11pm.

The events promise to recreate the vibe of a genuine house party, with a purpose-built venue featuring fixtures and fittings, beer in the bath, and an oversized bed acting as the dance floor.

Click back to NME.COM next week to get the chance to win tickets to the event.

Zoot Woman Debut Gig @ The End

-Sat 13 Jan 2001-

Two great reviews of Zoot Woman's Debut Gig:

London The End

Close your eyes and you could be in a Manhattan nightclub, circa 1983. Opening your eyes has the same effect. There's three good looking young men, dressed in matching white suits strutting to good time, electro pop rock, their gait assured and their eyes steely.

The group is the baby of Stuart Price, aka Jacques Lu Cont of Les Rythmes Digitales. Undoubtedly one of this country's brightest young musicians, Price has built on LRD's unashamedly retro electro dance music and brought in songs that wouldn't sound out of place on any 'Best Of The 1980s' compilation tape. All we needed here tonight was Molly Ringwald having an emotional conversation with Andrew McCarthy at the bar to complete the picture.

Think Human League, think Duran Duran, think, gulp, Hall & Oates, and you're halfway to Zoot Woman's sound. While in print this may sound horrific, the reality is fantastic, because Price has crafted some genuinely affecting pop songs out of his '80s chemistry kit. Luckily, the impeccably groomed frontman John Blake has more than enough vocal skills to carry it off.

Forthcoming single 'You And I' and the impossibly catchy 'It's Automatic' are set highlights, but tonight's debut gig is full of them. Like LRD, Zoot Woman is a fun night out,
but Stuart Price's latest incarnation boasts much better tunes. If the year 2001 is the year that the '80s revival kicks in for sure, then Zoot Woman will provide its soundtrack.

Review by Andy Capper!?

Yeah great night, really smart. It was a really special night,
for 3 reasons.

Trash's 4th birthday party 1st EVER live 'band' to perform at The End and of course, most important reason, 1st ever live performance by Zoot Woman.

I dont remember THAT much about the performance, my mind was in other places for some of it ;p so not sure how much of a review I could do. These girls I was with while they were playing took some photos, on my advice. They have my email address and I just hope they contact me. If they do ill ask for the photos, which would be smart. They were australian, so I just hope they contact me as i wont ever get hold of them again otherwise.

Stuart and the others were really friendly and spent ages chatting afterwards. Oh, they were all dressed in white suites. Very spiffing they all looked ;)
